How to get free coffee in the UKTo mark world coffee day, Costa Coffee gave away free hot drinks from their 8,500 Express coffee machines across the UK.  This was a great promotional giveaway, which took the UK by storm, leading to the machines quickly running out of coffee, hot chocolate and pretty much everything else in just a few hours.

So, this got us to thinking, how can we get free coffee and tea everyday, not just as part of Costa’s giveaway this year?

How To Get Free Coffee & Tea Every Day In The UK

Having scoured the UK high street for offers, we have come up with this ultimate list so you can get free coffee, tea, hot chocolate and even something nice to eat.  If you know of any others, please let us know in the comments below.

Greggs

greggsWith over 2,000 shops across the UK, like Costa Coffee, there is a Greggs bakery just round the corner from you, right now!

So this method is easy for anyone to use, no matter where you live in the UK.

Simply sign up to the Greggs Rewards app on your mobile and you should have a hot drink reward waiting for you as a welcome bonus.

It is worth keeping Greggs’ Reward app installed, as every time you buy something in store, you can scan your app and claim another Free Large Hot Drink on the 8th purchase.  They also give out quite a few freebies from time to time, like a free bottle of Lucazade without having to buy anything.

Booths

boothsThis method is restricted to the North West of England, but is an absolute beauty if you live there or going up to the Lakes for the weekend.

Simply sign up to a Booths loyalty card and grab a free regular hot drink every day!  How good is that?

All you need is your own reusable cup and permanent loyalty card.  Simply get your regular sized latte, cappuccino, americano, white americano, hot chocolate or tea and show your loyalty card.  Thats it, free drinks available every day.

If you do not have a reusable coffee cup, or forget to bring it, don’t worry, you can still get a hot drink for half price with your loyalty card.

Please note that this is for takeaway coffee only, if you want to get a free coffee to in the cafe, you will need to buy some food as well.

Caffè Nero  (O2 Priority)

Caffè NeroAvailable to anyone on the O2 mobile network, this method gives you a free hot tea, chocolate or coffee every Tuesday or Wednesday at Caffe Nero.

All you have to do is sign up to the O2 Priority app on your mobile phone and show your code at checkout to get a free Tea, Cortado, Iced Americano, Iced Latte, Caffè Latte, Espresso, Cappuccino, Flat White, Americano or Hot Chocolate.

Available every Tuesday or Wednesday to O2 mobile phone customers, it is definitely an easy way to get a free drink each week, plus you can collect Nero stamps with each drink for another free coffee!

Waitrose

WaitroseWaitrose offer free hot drinks when you use your myWaitrose loyalty card and make an in-store purchase.

Similar to the Booths method, all you need to do is sign up for a myWaitrose loyalty card and make a purchase.  You can then use your own reusable cup for a free Cappuccino, Americano, Latte, Tea or Hot Chocolate.

There is no minimum price limit for the purchase to trigger the free hot drink (obviously not a 5p carrier bag!), so either get it when you are shopping, or think small each day, like a 10p banana!

IKEA

IKEAThe Swedes have a great way to get you to visit IKEA more often, they will bribe you with a free Tea or Coffee.

To grab yourself a free coffee or tea, all you have to do is sign up to IKEA’s loyalty card (IKEA Family) and swipe it Monday to Friday in the restaurant to get a free hot coffee or tea.

This offer is not available on Saturdays or Sundays, only Monday to Friday but with plenty of stores, you are likely passing an IKEA on your way home from work anyway.

You do not need an IKEA Family loyalty card for each member of your family, one swipe from one member of your family is good enough to get free hot drinks for you all.

We appreciate that simplicity at My Virtual Coffee House.  Thanks IKEA.

John Lewis

John LewisDo you like cake?  Stupid question, of course you do!

This method not only gives you a free hot drink, but you can also claim a free piece of cake as well.

All you have to do is register with the My John Lewis membership programme and a free hot drink and slice of cake can be yours at the John Lewis cafe, at least 3 times a year with the vouchers you will receive.

It is free to sign up to the John Lewis loyalty programme and you get a lot of additional benefits and offers as well as the free coffee and cake.  So worth doing.

paulSimple is best in our book, and PAUL’s make it really simple for you to get a free large tea, coffee or hot chocolate, along with either a pain au chocolat or croissant.

All you have to do is register a PAUL loyalty card and the free drink and snack is yours, as long as you grab it before midday.  Simple and we love it!

PAUL bakery’s are not available across the UK, but there are a lot of them in London, so if you are live there, work there, or are planning a visit, it is worth signing up and grabbing yourself a free coffee.

costaLike the Priority mobile app for O2 customers, the Wuntu mobile app offers users of the Three mobile network freebies and discounts every week.

All you need to do is sign up to Wuntu from your Three mobile phone and keep an eye out for freebies.  We have seen free drinks from Costa Coffee quite regularly, so keep checking and grab yourself a free drink when they are available.

You will find Benugo restaurants and cafes in museums like the Natural History and British museum, as well as in Regent’s Park and other fantastic locations.  Just remember that your voucher is only good for a month, so do not apply for it until you are ready to use it!

Costa & Greggs (VeryMe)

VeryMeLike the Priority mobile app for O2 customers and the Wuntu mobile app for Three customers, the VeryMe app gives Vodaphone users freebies and discounts every week.

Simply download and install the VeryMe app on your mobile phone and keep an eye out for freebies from both Costa Coffee and Greggs.  When you see the free coffee or hot drink rewards, tap to claim it and show the discount code when you go to buy.  Voila, free coffee or tea.

To be honest, each of the mobile contract apps are a no brainer, as they constantly have lots of freebies for their customers, so if you have not signed up yet, what are you waiting for?

Why do places give away free tea or coffee?

Surely it is too costly for companies to give away coffee and tea for free, so why do they constantly do this?  Well there are a few very good reasons, that make perfect sense, and also make each company a lot of money.

1) To make you a loyal customer

Think about it, if you go into a supermarket or coffee shop to claim a free coffee, you are also likely to do your shopping as well, as you are already there anyway.  Or perhaps you will pickup a snack to eat with your free drink from the coffee shop.  Given how cheap a coffee or tea is for them to produce, companies make money through these offers every day.

This is not a bad thing, just smart marketing, and something you can take advantage of every day.

2) To introduce you to their product

Do you have a favourite coffee shop brand?  Is it Starbucks, Costa Coffee or Nero?  Would you be tempted to get a coffee from a coffee shop which is not your favourite, especially if your favourite is available just a few doors down?  No, not likely, you will stick to what you like.

What about if it was free?  Hmmm, well if it is free, that is a different matter.  Maybe after you have tried a free coffee, you mike just find that you like it just as much as your favourite coffee shop, maybe you will buy a coffee from here more often in the future.

See how it works?  Simple, effective and clever.  Plus we get to enjoy a free coffee.

How can I get free tea or coffee?

As we have shown you, one of the best ways to get free tea or coffee is to sign up to loyalty cards.  They are free and not only give you a free drink (sometimes daily) but they also have so many more benefits to take advantage of.

It is also worth keeping an eye on social media, as brands like Costa Coffee, Starbucks and big restaurant chains often have giveaways and freebies for their fans, so be sure to check each day.  It only takes a minute after all, and you could get a free coffee or tea.

Coffee chains such as Starbucks & Costa, and chain restaurants like Giraffe, often announce free drink giveaways on their social media pages.
